IGBC is promoting the concept of green buildings and facilitating construction of green buildings in the country. 

The vision of the IGBC is to usher in a green building movement in the country and to facilitate India become one of the world leaders in green buildings by 2015.
With a modest beginning of 20,000 sq ft of green footprint in the country in the year 2001, today (as on June 2010) about 640 green buildings with a footprint of over 409 million sq ft are being constructed all over India.  The Council’s activities have enabled a market transformation with regard to green building concepts, materials & technologies.  The project market potential for green building material and technologies is estimated to be 40 billion USD by the year 2012.

To further advance the green building movement in India, IGBC is hosting its flagship event ‘Green Building Congress 2010’ between 6 & 9 Oct 2010 at Chennai, India.

IGBC is expecting over 2000 participants to attend the conference and 250 stalls at the exhibition, which would attract 7000 visitors.
