  Berlin-based GREENTECH FESTIVAL (GTF) launches its first ever Singapore edition in 2022, taking place from 17 to 18 November at Gardens by the Bay.   The Keppel Infrastructure@Changi (KI@Changi) building achieved the Green Mark Platinum Positive Energy (GM: 2021) accolade in July 2022 – the highest Green Mark accolade by the Building and Construction Authority. It is the first building in Singapore to receive this certification under the GM: 2021 standard; and a real depiction of how a District Cooling System (DCS) supplied building integrated with Keppel Infrastructure’s unique EaaS solutions can help achieve resilience and drive efficiency and sustainability outcomes. The EaaS solutions include upgrading the air conditioning & mechanical ventilation system; deployment of over 4,000 sqm of photovoltaics (PV) at the rooftop and building façade - generating about 600,00 kWh/year of renewable energy and yielding more than double the building’s consumption; and integration of EV charging stations to an on-site renewable energy source. Retrofitting our existing building stock is critical to Singapore's climate ambitions, with the Singapore Green Building Masterplan and Green Mark Incentive Scheme 2.0 rolled out to help move the needle. While there are overlapping areas, greening an existing building is very different from designing a new building from the get-go, with many challenges specific to existing building retrofits. The BCA Green Mark scheme has been refreshed to raise the sustainability standards of Singapore's built environment in line with climate goals. In the latest BCA Green Mark 2021 (GM: 2021) standard, many pre-requisites have been removed, and the criteria have been restructured into two broad categories (i) Energy Efficiency and (ii) Sustainability Sections covering Whole Life Carbon, Health & Wellbeing, Intelligence, Maintainability and Resilience. Projects attaining a minimum number of credits in any Sustainability Section will be awarded a corresponding Badge to showcase the achievement of exemplary project performance. Expanding on the Unpacking Green Mark 2021 webinar held in 2021, SGBC is organising two webinars to delve deeper into the Sustainability Sections and provide insights on addressing the credits and achieving GM:2021 Badges.

New buildings have provisions for highly-optimised HVAC systems, driven by a desire to achieve the highest levels of energy efficiency. SGBC Founding Member CapitaLand has launched the second edition of the CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge (CSXC) and is calling for proposals across the globe to make buildings more climate-resilient, resource-efficient, healthier and safer. The Challenge provides an opportunity for innovators to work with CapitaLand in making buildings more climate-resilient and resource-efficient. Up to 10 outstanding innovations will be given an opportunity to pilot at selected CapitaLand properties around the world and up to S$50,000 to cover each pilot's costs.
