20 Green Professionals, Businesses and Building Projects Lauded at SGBC-BCA Leadership In Sustainability Awards 2022
Singapore, 20 May 2022 – A strong, enduring focus on sustainability has enabled 20 Green Mark Accredited Professionals (GMAPs), organisations and building projects to excel at the latest edition of the SGBC-BCA Leadership in Sustainability Awards co-organised by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).

SGBC Gives Back to help Built Environment Sector Emerge Stronger & Forge Ahead
Singapore, 14 January 2022 – The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) will channel the COVID-19 relief funds received from the Government back to the building and construction sector through a line-up of impactful initiatives in 2022 to build up collective industry and community support for green building and climate action. SGBC Launches Digital Campaign to Show Homeowners that Green Means Go
Singapore, 21 October 2021 - The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) is showing homeowners, homebuyers and the wider public that Green Means Go through a new digital outreach campaign about green homes and sustainability.
Anchored on an interactive websiite at greenbuildings.sg, the campaign will feature several key mechanics to raise awareness and drive engagement, beginning with the Greenest Home Town Challenge. Running from October 2021 to January 2022, the Challenge invites homeowners to post photos of their own green home efforts onto a map of Singapore. Entries can be as simple as taking photos of house plants or as extensive as showcasing a full-fledged smart home system. Homeowners with the most-liked photos stand to win prizes such as shopping vouchers and home appliances, and Singapore’s Greenest Home Town will be unveiled in January 2022
Running from October 2021 to March 2022, the Green Means Go campaign will outline the role of green buildings in environmental sustainability, showcase the benefits to human health and wellbeing as well as empower homeowners to build green into their homes. The action-oriented thematic resonates well with key green building outcomes, which are captured as the campaign’s main pillars of Go Natural, Go Healthy, Go Smart. With the increasing emphasis on the effects of climate change, green buildings are in a prime position to not just accelerate decarbonisation efforts but also provide healthier, more equitable spaces for everyone, everywhere.

SGBC & REDAS Lead Industry Action to Accelerate Built Environment Decarbonisation
Singapore, 5 August 2021 - Close to 60 organisations across the building and construction sector have signed the Singapore Built Environment Embodied Carbon Pledge, signalling strong industry impetus to address built environment embodied carbon emissions.
The Pledge – initiated by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) – was formally launched during the virtual SGBC-REDAS Green Real Estate Trends Conference 2021. It is aimed at bringing attention to the critical issue of embodied carbon and the built environment sector's influence on these emissions, as well as to help unify and amplify industry action.

Strengthening Access to Sustainability
Singapore, 11 December 2020 – Industry players and end-users can look forward to greater access to built environment sustainability, enabled through a new collaboration between Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC).
The partnership was cemented by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at Singapore Polytechnic and witnessed by Mr. Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development. Under the auspices of the MOU, both organisations will work together to enable exchange of technical resources and expertise to efficiently and proactively promote green products and practices to the industry and community through five (5) key initiatives:
- Advancement of Greener & More Sustainable Built Environment Materials
- Understanding the Embodied Carbon of Materials
- Co-organising of Green Building related Courses/ Seminars/ Conferences
- Outreach to Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs)
- Exploration of joint Research Opportunities in Green Technology

Tan Swee Yiow appointed as Treasurer to WorldGBC Board of Directors
Singapore, 1 July 2020 – Mr. Tan Swee Yiow, Immediate Past President of the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) as well as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Keppel Land, has been appointed as Treasurer of the World Green Building Council’s (WorldGBC) Board of Directors (2020-2022): an influential group of global leaders that is driving the largest global-regional-local action network to deliver net zero, healthy, equitable and sustainable built environments for everyone, everywhere.

Bringing Embodied Carbon Upfront
Singapore, 23 September 2019 – The built environment is in a prime position to address the emergency of climate change through the reduction of embodied carbon emissions from our buildings and infrastructure assets, according to a new report published by the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC).
Released in conjunction with the 10th World Green Building Week, Climate Week NYC, and the United Nations Climate Action Summit 2019, the comprehensive “Bringing Embodied Carbon Upfront” report highlights decarbonisation of the built environment as one of the most cost-effective ways to mitigate climate change.

SGBC Leads the Way in Greening the Built Environment
Singapore, 5 September 2019 - The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) cemented its role as an integral enabler of a greener built environment tonight, demonstrating its impact through the Winners of the SGBC-BCA Sustainability Leadership Awards 2019.
Established in 2009 with the mandate to certify green building products and materials for Singapore’s growing green building and infrastructure portfolio, SGBC has grown into a national enabler of sustainability for the entire built environment over the past decade. This is exemplified by the Winners of the biennial SGBC-BCA Sustainability Leadership Awards 2019, who were honoured during the SGBC Gala Dinner 2019 graced by Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for the Environment and Water Resources & Health at the Orchard Hotel Singapore.

Asia’s first buses with green rooftops to start plying Singapore’s roads
Singapore, 5 May 2019 – Asia’s first green-roofed bus initiative was launched today at the inaugural Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) Horticulture Show, held at the newly opened Lakeside Garden, as part of the Festival’s efforts to showcase horticulture excellence and innovation of the local landscape industry.
The ‘Garden on the Move’ initiative will see 10 SBS Transit buses ply Singapore’s roads for at least three months. Outfitted with an innovative, locally developed and soil-less roof system, these ‘green roof’ public buses will be deployed on the roads to study possible energy and cost savings for bus operators.

SGBC announces new President and Board
Singapore, 28 March 2019 – Dr. Ho Nyok Yong, Immediate Past President of the Singapore Contractors Association Limited, will head the new Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) Board for the 2019/2021 term.
Dr. Ho takes over from 5th SGBC President Mr. Tan Swee Yiow, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Keppel Land International Limited. The new SGBC Board Members were formally introduced at SGBC’s 10th Annual General Meeting held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, which was attended by more than 80 industry representatives from across the building and construction industry.

Singaporean named as climate champion on International Women’s Day
Singapore, 8 March 2019 - The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) has named Er. Yvonne Soh, Executive Director of the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC), a climate champion for using her expertise and passion to build a better place for everyone.
Ms. Cristina Gamboa, Chief Executive Officer, of WorldGBC said: “This year’s theme resonates on so many levels for women who are leading the drive towards sustainability. For us, better outcomes for women mean a better future for our planet. Balance for Better recognises that diversity and equality are inextricably linked to our mission to create green buildings for everyone, everywhere.”

A Catalyst for Green Building and Sustainability
Singapore, 11 August 2018 – Polytechnic students showcased their creativity with myriad innovative green building solutions intended to help address climate challenges at the Singapore Green Building Council’s Green Catalyst Challenge 2018 Final Pitch event held 11 August 2018 at Bukit Panjang Community Club. As a hackathon-inspired challenge, student teams received insights from industry leaders to put forward innovative green building solutions that can help to address climate challenges.

A Green Space for Green Learning
Singapore, 22 February 2018 – Bukit View Secondary School (BVSS) students can look forward to having lessons in a green classroom fitted out with environmentally-preferred green building materials and eco-features.
Officially opened on 22 February 2018 by Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, the JOULES (Junior Outstanding Leaders in Environment for Sustainability) Smart Centre @ BVSS is a prime example of green building consciousness. With the support of the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC), BVSS worked with various like-minded environmentally-conscious industry partners to make the facility a reality.

Building Greener Workplaces
More than 100 building tenants and occupants gleaned actionable insights into creating healthier and more productive workplaces through the inaugural Better Places for People Tenant Engagement Session.
Organised by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) in partnership with City Developments Limited (CDL), the first-of-its-kind outreach session was held at CDL’s Tower Club to an audience comprised of tenants and occupants from CDL’s office properties. The participants were mostly senior management and key decision makers, cutting across a good mix of tenants from the different industries.
