Data Protection Policy
SGBC’s personal data protection policies are mirrored after Government advisories and guidelines issued by the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC). SGBC only collects the minimum amount of personal data required for the purposes of Membership, Certification, Events and other related services and/or activities.
SGBC will only collect, use, disclose and/or process personal data that have been provided previously, now and may in the future provide to us including but not limited to name, email address, telephone numbers, address, employment details for the following purposes:
- Facilitating, processing, dealing with, administering, managing and/or maintaining a business relationship with SGBC
- Carrying out due diligence and other screening activities, or to prevent or investigate any fraud or breach of contract or unlawful activity, or complying with or as required by any applicable law, governmental or regulatory requirements of any relevant jurisdiction
- Conducting research, analysis and development activities (including but not limited to data analytics, surveys and/or profiling) to enhance SGBC’s products, services and/or operations, and/or otherwise for SGBC’s business operations and purposes
- Storing, hosting, backing up (whether for disaster recovery or otherwise) of personal data, whether within or outside Singapore
Personal data collected will never be disclosed to third parties except when required by the law or when third parties (such as data intermediaries and subcontractors) are engaged by SGBC to assist with GMAP activities. All third parties engaged will be contractually bound to preserve the confidentiality of all personal data.
SGBC has taken every reasonable effort to protect all collected personal data by putting in place the necessary security framework to prevent unauthorised access, collection, usage, disclosure, copying, modification, destruction and other similar risks. All personal data is stored on the Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) cloud platform, complete with a full suite of security architecture. S3 is the only object storage service that blocks public access to all data at the bucket or the account level. S3 maintains compliance programs, such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA/HITECH, FedRAMP, EU Data Protection Directive, and FISMA, to meet data storage regulatory requirements.
As far as possible, the necessary security measures to safeguard the integrity of collected personal data have been taken against the risks associated with using online platforms such as from harmful code entering our websites and digital platforms through computer virus programs, bugs, trojan horses, spyware, adware or malware.
While we will do our utmost to protect personal data, we also advise users to take every possible precaution to safeguard personal data online: change passwords often, use strong alphanumeric passwords and browse the Internet with a secure, up-to-date web browser.
