The transition to a low-carbon economy is accelerating, and for businesses, this represents both a fundamental risk and a significant opportunity. Understanding and preparing for this shift requires new capabilities and insights.
Nearly 100 participants logged in at lunchtime for the first session of the SGBC Sustainable Organisations Webinar Series on 14 October 2025, where we looked through the Strategic Lens with SGBC Member EY to better understand sustainability reporting frameworks for enterprise transformation.
During the session, we explored how to turn compliance into a strategic advantage, with the real opportunity lying in leveraging data to drive decarbonisation. This means:
- Differentiating between operational and embodied carbon and setting reduction targets for both
- Developing a clear decarbonisation pathway that leverages a mix of strategies: reducing energy demand, optimising systems, replacing high-carbon sources, and procuring renewables
- Utilising feasibility and cost-benefit analyses to prioritise initiatives, from passive design enhancements to active technology integrations, that offer the best return on investment
