As carbon emissions increasingly become a critical metric in shaping sustainable buildings, life cycle assessment (LCA) is emerging as an essential tool for built environment professionals. On 22 May 2025, SGBC held a run of its ongoing course on LCA for Building Projects, part of the SGBC Carbon Essentials Course Series. The day-long session equipped more than 20 participants with both foundational knowledge and practical skills to assess the embodied carbon emissions of building projects.
Through a blend of knowledge sharing, case studies and hands-on exercises, participants explored how LCA supports better building design and retrofit decisions, as well as gained good insight on the role of environmental product declarations (EPD) towards low-carbon material selection for building projects.
