Carbon emissions are a critical metric for understanding and reducing the environmental impact of buildings. Built environment professionals and practitioners are increasingly being required to conduct life cycle assessments (LCA) to quantify the carbon impact building design and retrofit decisions.
As part of the SGBC Carbon Essentials Course Series, the course will provide an overview of embodied carbon emissions and an understanding of a building’s LCA through the One Click LCA carbon assessment platform. It will also discuss the role of environmental product declarations (EPD) in material selection and building LCA. Participants will have the opportunity to use the One Click LCA tool with hands-on exercises to conduct LCA of building projects and gain a deeper understanding of potential decarbonisation opportunities.

Green and sustainable finance are common buzzwords floating about in almost any sustainability conversation but do you know what they actually entail? Gain a deeper understanding of green and sustainable finance principles and their applications at our SGBC Green and Sustainable Finance Course Series, specially curated for non-finance professionals seeking to tap into green and sustainable finance, as well as to articulate and advocate for green initiatives more effectively
In-Person, Instructor-led CPD Training Course
Sustainability considerations have become key requirements in design and construction. The demand for low-carbon solutions has spurred radical innovation in materials and re-engineering of production processes. Central to the evaluation of building products and materials is its carbon footprint, of which the choice of quantifying carbon performance is through Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). EPDs provide a standardised way to assess and compare the environmental performance of materials and products across the lifecycle.
At this SGBC Course, participants will gain a clear understanding of EPDs, including their structure, content, methodology and preparation; as well as acquire fundamental knowledge of life cycle analysis (LCA) to evaluate environmental impacts. There will be a practical demonstration and hands-on application of how LCA can be conducted and modelled effectively with simulation software.
