This afternoon, the Singapore Green Building Council and JTC Corporation hosted the 15th edition of the annual joint seminar at the Matrix Auditorium, Biopolis. This milestone session, themed “Circular Strategies for a Future-Ready Built Environment,” brought together industry leaders and researchers to explore how we can move from a linear “take-make-waste” model toward a truly resilient construction value chain.
The event gathered nearly 300 industry practitioners to explore innovative pathways for reducing carbon emissions and minimising waste. Highlights from the insightful Seminar included:
- Mr. Ho Kee Hoe from Cora Environment shared how carbon capture and mineralisation can convert incineration residues into low-carbon construction materials.
- Dr. Du Hongjian from the National University of Singapore detailed the successful upcycling of waste glass powder as a cement replacement in real-world construction projects.
- Dr. Stanley Wang from Etavolt Pte Ltd and Mr. Tiong Heng Liong from Vector Green discussed managing solar PV systems across their full lifecycle to maximise asset value and minimise environmental risk.
- Dr. Eugene Seah from DLS Consultancy explored how digital material passports within BIM can unlock secondary material markets and enable “Buildings as Material Banks”.
As articulated by SGBC President Mr. Allen Ang, BBM in his opening remarks, “Circularity is essential for meeting our national climate and zero-waste targets. The built environment sector must play our part, and our efforts will also help reduce embodied carbon across the building lifecycle.”

Thank you to all our speakers and attendees for participating in these critical discussions as we work toward Singapore’s net-zero 2050 goals. Together, we can ensure our buildings truly last.
