The Go 25 national movement is well underway with more than 120 private sector organisations pledging to Go 25, alongside all public sector entities as part of Green Gov SG.
Setting indoor temperatures at around 25°C represents an evidence-based approach and first step to sustainable comfort. From an enhanced comfort perspective, the 25°C setting is a widely recognised benchmark for thermal comfort, backed by years of international studies and standards.
To validate the energy savings potential of going 25, SGBC commissioned the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Centre for Environmental Sustainability (CfES) to conduct a structured study on energy savings and thermal comfort at optimal indoor temperature ranges for office and retail spaces. The office space findings are particularly compelling: a 12% cooling energy reduction was observed for each degree raised from 23°C to 25°C. For a typical 3,000 square metre office space – which is the size of about 30 four-room HDB flats – this translates to annual cost savings of approximately $6,400. There was also no discernible change to occupant thermal comfort during the study period. This means we can achieve significant cost savings without compromising occupant satisfaction.
All it takes is one simple step to start your Go 25 journey: set indoor temperatures to 25°C or as close as possible in premises under direct operational control. Check out how some of our pledgees are supporting Go 25 on top of setting thermostats to around 25°C!
