SGBC EPD Development Bootcamp

SGBC wrapped up a successful EPD Development Bootcamp on 30 Aug. 2024. Organised by SGBC and supported by SGBC Member One Click LCA, the EPD Development Bootcamp was aimed at imparting knowledge and skillsets to develop new capabilities in professional consultancy services firms and building material/ product manufacturers & suppliers.

With EPDs quickly becoming a key means of communicating a product’s environmental impact in a transparent and consistent manner, the two-day Bootcamp brought 25 built environment professionals up to speed on:

  • 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗣𝗗𝘀: Participants obtained a comprehensive understanding of EPDs, including their purpose, structure, and key benefits for manufacturers, specifiers, and end-users in the building industry.
  • 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀: Participants better understood the fundamentals of Life Cycle Assessment, the methodology behind quantifying a product’s environmental impact across its life cycle.
  • 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: A key component of any EPD journey, best practices for collecting reliable data and navigating the verification process for EPD development were shared.
  • 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀: A wealth of relevant case studies were shared with participants, who greatly benefited from real-world examples of successful EPD development in different building product categories.

 

With the growing global focus on decarbonisation and addressing supply chain emissions, building developers, professionals, contractors and specifiers are increasingly seeking to understand the carbon emissions impact of building materials and products.

The EPD Development Bootcamp is part of SGBC’s suite of programmes designed specifically for enhancing the carbon literacy of stakeholders in the built environment sector.
