SGBC kicked off its Seminar series for the year on 14 January 2025 at Voco Hotel Ochard, in partnership with SGBC Established Member Mapei Far East.
Themed “Rethinking Building Materials for a Low Carbon Future“, the oversubscribed event extensively explored how low-carbon building materials are instrumental in shaping a more sustainable built environment. By aligning low-carbon innovations with global measurement standards such as environmental product declarations and lifecycle assessment, carbon reduction efforts can be better tracked, quantified and then optimised.
Attendees heard from Mr. Kian Chuan Tan from SGBC Founding Member City Developments Limited on a property developer’s gameplan for decarbonisation, gaining key insights on some of the strategies being employed and their keen emphasis on collaborating for sustainability.
Ms Mikaela Decio from Mapei then took attendees through the role of low emissions materials, highlighting the importance of third party certification, the need for EPDs in an increasingly sustainability-focused business environment as well as how targeted and holistic R&D efforts can open up new opportunities.
