Green buildings are more than just structures; they are living systems designed to optimise energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and environmental sustainability.

Last friday, SGBC organised another edition of its Learning Journey to The GEAR, Kajima’s first overseas R&D facility, made possible by SGBC Founding Members Kajima Development Pte Ltd and Singapore Polytechnic (SP). Using The GEAR building as a case study, more than 30 built environment professionals delved into how green and smart technologies integrated into daily operations can help create environments that adapt to occupant needs in real-time, enhancing comfort, efficiency, and overall wellbeing.

Green Mark Professionals had an enlightening experience as we explored the following innovations around the sprawling premises:

  • Construction Robotics Lab – A research and development facility focused on new construction production methodology leveraging robotics and automation to drive productivity gains.
  • K/Park – a modular space that is naturally ventilated with flexible configurations for different conditions.
  • Sensors and artificial intelligence (AI) strategically integrated across the office spaces to transform traditional human infrastructure into responsive systems.

SGBC will continue to organise more visits to exemplary implementations of green building design and technology, powered by the expertise of the SGBC Membership community.
