Buildings account for over 20% of Singapore’s total emissions. But moving beyond energy efficiency and individual green buildings requires a deeper question: How can every stakeholder across the ecosystem contribute meaningfully to Singapore’s sustainable development?

That was the central theme explored this morning at The Edge Singapore’s inaugural Sustainable Construction Symposium 2026, held at Pan Pacific Orchard. Organised by SGBC Member The Edge Singapore and supported by SGBC Member YTL Cement Group, more than 200 industry representatives walked away with a substantial volume of insights – practical intelligence to accelerate their own sustainable development journeys.

Key Highlights
SGBC Board Member Mr. Kian Seng Ang Seng (Building and Construction Authority Singapore) shared updates on Singapore’s green building progress, the construction industry outlook, and how the pursuit of Super Low Energy (SLE) buildings can advance our national decarbonisation goals.

The Singapore Contractors Association Ltd (SCAL) President Mr. Lee Kay Chai spoke to how the green construction agenda is being advanced through mindset shifts, innovation, and value creation – building a more resilient and sustainable future for the sector.

SGBC Board Member Ms. Farizan R. (GreenA Consultants) joined industry experts on a panel titled “The Green Transition: Unlocking Opportunities,” emphasising a whole-of-sector evolution – from design and materials to project delivery – to meet new expectations for productivity, efficiency, and environmental performance.

As the Knowledge Partner for the Symposium, SGBC is proud to support the event to help accelerate the market shift from niche green to mainstream sustainable construction.

The conversation has moved. Now the industry must move with it.
