Innovations in the built environment are critical in transforming the built environment into one that is more sustainable and low-carbon. Advancements within the building the construction industry present opportunities to drive Singapore’s national decarbonisation goals through innovations in sustainable construction.
Returning to an in-person format for the first time since 2019, the BRI-SGBC Seminar 2024 held on 30 Aug. 2024 dived into sustainable construction efforts, innovative building technologies as well as best practices in the industry. Close to 100 industry professionals listened with rapt attention as our speakers covered:
- 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 & 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴: Mr. Tan Sze Tiong, Group Director (Building & Research Institute) / Chief Sustainability Officer, Housing & Development Board, shared on advanced research and innovation initiatives within the public housing sector. This effort aims to enhance the quality, sustainability, and liveability of public housing developments through the application of research, technology, and forward-thinking strategies.
- 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗧𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 – 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 & 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Mr. Dickson Liew and Mr. Cheong Wei Jiann from BBR Holdings (S) Limited explained in detail how this construction technique and technology can enhance structural strength while optimising material usage for a project, contributing to a more sustainable built environment.
- 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 & 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Mr. Ben Sheng from China Construction (South Pacific) Development Co Pte Ltd took participants through a journey of discovery as he shared how robotics and automation technologies are improving efficiency, safety, and accuracy on building sites, while minimising waste and environmental impact.
Attendees also got the opportunity to tour the Centre of Building Research, receiving a first-hand look at the 3D Concrete Printer, one of the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, amongst other building research innovations.
