Lighting the Way Towards Sustainability

This morning, the Singapore Green Building Council hosted a collaborative dialogue with SGBC Member Signify at the Singapore Sustainability Academy, tackling the intersection of global regulatory shifts and local climate action. We kicked off with an industry context update, sharing Singapore’s latest sustainability initiatives and green building developments.

Signify’s Global Head of Sustainability Mr. Maurice Loosschilder then took us through the Brighter Lives, Better World 2030 program, a powerful look at how energy efficiency and circularity are reshaping the industry. The discussion on how EU regulations are influencing Asia’s built environment landscape really got everyone in the room thinking.

The highlight of the morning? An open-floor roundtable discussion where we tackled the big questions:

  • Europe vs. Asia: Regulatory approaches and what we can learn from each other
  • The impact of EU directives on local supply chains and innovation
  • Environmental labelling: how transparent product and building certifications are shaping purchasing decisions and regulatory compliance across the region

Key takeaway: Asia’s path to decarbonisation must be contextual, but collaboration across regions is essential for meaningful progress.

A big thank you to Signify for working with us on this meaningful dialogue, to our roundtable guests and SGBC Board Members, and to everyone who participated in the discussion. The energy in the room was a testament to our community’s commitment to a greener, low-carbon built environment.
