This afternoon, the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) concluded an incredibly timely SGBC Seminar themed Energising Strategies for Today’s Costs and Tomorrow’s Climate through Power Moves.

As SGBC President Mr. Allen Ang highlighted in his opening address, energy costs are no longer a cyclical challenge: they are a structural reality. With buildings accounting for over 20% of Singapore’s total carbon emissions, taking deliberate, strategic control over how we buy, use, and finance energy is both a cost-saving necessity and an absolute climate imperative.

Supported by SGBC Founding Member C&W Services Singapore as the Education Partner, the Seminar moved beyond theory to present a practical playbook of three “Power Moves” to help organisations, especially small & medium enterprises, build long-term resilience:

  • Strategic Energy Procurement: Moving beyond superficial price comparisons to navigate volatile markets and secure long-term portfolio stability.
  • Innovative Benchmarking: Shifting from static compliance scores to modern performance tracking that delivers actionable pathways for optimisation.
  • Sustainable Internal Financing: Establishing self-funding mechanisms—like a revolving energy fund—so green building upgrades can pay for themselves without relying on external capital.

Additionally, partnering with organisations such as the Employment & Employability Institute (e2i) can help to upskill building professionals, equipping teams with the capabilities needed to manage tomorrow’s smart estates.

As a compact, highly urbanised city-state, Singapore is uniquely positioned to serve as a model for dense cities across Asia. By sharing replicable strategies, SGBC remains deeply committed to providing a platform – by our Members, for our Members – to collectively uplift the industry and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon built environment.

Thank you to our Education Partner, our brilliant speakers, and the dynamic hashtag#SGBCommunity who joined us to turn strategic intent into concrete, measurable action.
