SGBC-OCBC Built Environment Decarbonisation Challenge – 2nd Edition

The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC), in collaboration with OCBC, presents the 2nd edition of the SGBC-OCBC Built Environment Decarbonisation Challenge!

Following the success of the inaugural Challenge held in 2024, this edition aims to continue uncovering innovative solutions that prioritise energy savings, ease of deployment as well as scalability across buildings to catalyse the transition of the built environment towards a low-carbon future.

We invite innovators, solution providers and organisations with cutting-edge energy saving technologies, practical deployment solutions as well as scalable approaches to join us in building on this momentum. Together, we aim to accelerate decarbonisation in OCBC’s commercial buildings and beyond.

The Challenge

Buildings are responsible for 20 percent of Singapore’s carbon emissions, making them a key target in achieving Singapore’s Green Plan. They offer a significant opportunity to reduce energy consumption, optimise energy use and improve resilience against climate change.

While we actively promote building energy efficiency through lifecycle equipment replacement and operational optimisation, we recognise that conventional methods have nearly reached their saturation point.

Challenge Statement: How can we fast-track the decarbonisation of our buildings?

The 2nd edition of the Challenge will draw a bead on solutions that:

  • Achieve substantial energy savings
  • Are easy to deploy with minimal disruption to building operations
  • Are scalable across various building types

Solutions should prioritise energy efficiency and carbon abatement, while also considering practicality and economic viability for effective deployment.

Who Can Participate?

The Challenge is open to companies passionate about decarbonisation, energy efficiency and sustainability in the built environment.

By participating in the Challenge, get to:

  • Demonstrate the energy saving potential and deployment readiness of your solutions in a live environment.
  • Network with industry leaders, experts, and innovators in sustainability and finance.
  • Contribute to a scalable model for reducing carbon emissions in buildings, paving the way to a greener future.

Shortlisted solutions stand to receive funding support for pilot implementations at selected OCBC properties.
