In Parliament on 7 April 2026, Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade & Industry Mr. Gan Kim Yong spoke on the impacts of developments in the Middle East. He warned of the risk of a global energy crunch and called on businesses and households to do their part to conserve energy and contribute towards Singapore’s energy resilience. The Government is taking the lead in this national energy conservation effort and will continue to provide support to businesses and households to help save energy.

Energy-saving measures include setting air-conditioning temperatures to 25°C or higher and turning off non-essential equipment and appliances when not in use. This reinforces what the Go 25 campaign for sustainable cooling has been championing since May 2025:
– Raising temperature from 23°C to 25°C reduces cooling energy by ~12% per degree
– A typical 3,000 sqm office going 25 can save approximately $6,400 annually in energy costs
– The scientifically validated optimal comfort zone for Singapore’s climate is 25.0°C to 28.0°C

But here’s the finding that matters most to building owners: When implemented with proper fan assistance and tenant communication, thermal comfort complaints typically do not increase. The public sector is now taking the lead to promote energy conservation by building on this evidence base. The private sector has the same data, the same tools, and the same opportunity.
