With the built environment being one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions with 38 percent of carbon dioxide emissions globally, reducing carbon emissions from construction activities is crucial to moving the needle on decarbonisation.
On 1 Oct. 2024, SGBC held a special Distinguished Lecture with Mr. Tristram Carfrae from Arup, themed Engineering a Carbon Neutral Future . As a visionary structural engineer who has contributed to some of the world’s most iconic buildings with some of the world’s best architects, Mr. Carfrae discussed how innovation and forward-thinking approaches can drive significant progress in decarbonising the built environment, punctuated with many examples of exemplary green buildings from around the world. Attendees definitely went away from the event with plenty of food for thought on accelerating efforts to reduce embodied carbon emissions in the built environment.
