Hands-On Training with the Building Embodied Carbon Calculator

The quantification of carbon is key for building project stakeholders to identify carbon hotspots, and be able to take necessary action to minimise carbon emissions by identifying alternative low-carbon solutions to achieve their decarbonisation goals.

Co-developed by the Singapore Green Building Council in collaboration with Building and Construction Authority, JTC Corporation and the Energy Studies Institute (ESI), the Building Embodied Carbon Calculator is a unified tool for built environment professionals to make informed decisions on material selections to reduce the carbon footprint of projects. Since its launch in 2022, the BECC has been downloaded nearly 5000 times.

SGBC held the first Hands-On Training for the BECC on 23 April 2025, where nearly 30 built environment professionals experienced using the Calculator firsthand to quantify the carbon emissions of a real-world building project, receiving practical skills to assess embodied carbon emissions for building projects.

This Hands-On Training is part of SGBC’s Carbon Essentials Course Series, designed to support the industry’s learning and development needs on the carbon metric across two learning dimensions: Knowledge Fundamentals and Applied Learning. Whether you are managing the carbon footprint for Organisations, Building Products, or Building Projects, we have specialised training courses to build a strong foundation of knowledge as well as develop implementation ability in each focus area.
