What does it take to grasp the fundamentals of green building?
Thirty-five learners from across the built environment sector found out at the Applied Learning Workshop on 30 October 2026 at Temasek Polytechnic (TP) – a key milestone on their path toward SGBC Green Mark Associate certification. Now in its 15th intake, the Green Mark Associate certification course is a foundational industry qualification programme that equips learners with green building knowledge and insights. It covers green building legislation and regulatory requirements, green building fundamentals, world green building developments and the Green Mark Version 7 certification standard.
The Workshop, facilitated by lead trainer Joy Gai, revisited material from the asynchronous online learning package and online assessment course components while drawing on practical insights from her own consultancy experience. A walk around the TP campus – certified BCA Green Mark Super Low Energy – showcased sustainability interventions such as solar panels, green roofs, light pipes, and an underground rainwater harvesting system.
The highlight of the Workshop was a tabletop exercise in which learners recommended green building retrofits for notional buildings of varying typologies. Participants applied green thinking and developed robust lists of green building measures for their assigned buildings, sparking lively group discussion.
The next Green Mark Associate intake will run in Q1 2027. Watch this page for more details!
